Children's rights events - Autumn 2010
The Children's Rights Alliance for England is holding two events this autumn: a working seminar on the Equality Act 2010 and our annual conference which is this year focused on children and young people's civil rights. Government avoids complete physical punishment ban

The Government is set to amend the law on physical punishment, so that only members of a child’s household or family are able to use the “reasonable punishment” defence. Ministers have avoided committing to a complete ban on the physical punishment of children. The Children’s Rights Alliance for England (CRAE) believes that the Government’s approach is fundamentally flawed.

The Children’s Rights Alliance for England (CRAE) is an alliance of organisations and individuals that work together to get the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child put fully into practice in England. We are setting up an advisory committee for children and young people to help to lead CRAE’s work.
Children's Rights Bill debate postponed
5 March 2010
The Children’s Rights Bill was due to receive its second reading in the House of Lords today and bring hope for rights protection to some of the UK’s most vulnerable children. Unfortunately the Bill will not be debated today due to lack of time, but Baroness Walmsley is hopeful of getting an alternative date for the debate later this month.
Government publishes report on CRC implementation

The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has today published a 237-page document on how the Government believes it is implementing international law as it applies to children’s rights.
