See it, Say it, Change it update: Time for Change It!
This month the See it, Say it, Change it steering group met for their second residential which took place at Jamie’s Farm in Wiltshire. The group came together to reflect on their work to date including, what they have learnt about children’s rights; achievements and challenges in researching and writing their report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child; and their visit to Geneva to give evidence to the Committee in October 2015.
At the residential, the steering group began planning for the Change it! campaign phase of their work, which will begin June. We will be recruiting new members of the steering group, especially children from marginalised groups who are not currently represented, for example, children who are refugees or who have been excluded from education. The steering group is working with staff from CRAE to co-produce recruitment materials and will be opening up the application process in early June. Watch this space!
Members of the steering group have been continuing to meet with MPs to highlight key findings from the See it, Say it, Change it report and currently have meetings scheduled with Kerry McCarthy MP, Sue Haymany MP and Nick Clegg MP.
We are very pleased that at the end of May two members of the steering group will be accompanying us to attend the UK Government examination by the UN Committee on the Rights of Child. The group plans to meet with UN Committee members and the UK delegation and will be sharing their experiences via social media while they are in Geneva.
