New Briefing – The Concluding Observations of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child 2023: Key issues raised

In May 2023, the UK Government was examined on its compliance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) for the first time since 2016. While the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (UN Committee) noted some areas of progress since its 2016 report on the UK, it highlighted a wide range of issues that are detrimentally impacting on children and made nearly 200 recommendations for action.

Our new briefing, which we have produced in partnership with Unicef UK and the Equality and Human Rights Commission, summarises the Concluding Observations in six easy to read pages. It covers the UN Committee's six priority areas - non-discrimination; abuse, neglect and sexual exploitation; children deprived of a family environment; mental health; asylum, refugee and migrant children; and children in the criminal justice system – as well as other key areas such as child poverty and education, leisure and play.
